Moving Day® News
Moving Day Buffalo was a great success, drawing nearly 700
participants this year raising more than $75,000 thus far. It was a very
poignant day, as this year’s effort worked to raise awareness that firefighters
face an increased risk of receiving a Parkinson’s diagnosis and our Moving Day
fell on 9/11. To help with that awareness, the Lancaster Volunteer Fire Department
brought their new $1.3 million ladder truck. For those who don’t know, the
warning on the back of firetrucks has been changed from “Stay 500 feet back” to
“Stay 343 feet back” in recognition of the number of firefighters who were
killed at the World Trade Center on 9/11/01. At the end of the walk, we had a
number of walkers gather around to form the outline of a “P,” resembling our
logo. This will become an annual component of our Moving Day going forward.
