I will be doing another 1/2 marathon this March, but this time it will be for a cause that is very personal to me, Parkinsons Disease. Parkinsons is a terrible disease with debilitating affects on people.
My father was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease about ten years ago, he passed away this past summer. After his diagnosis, my father’s quality of life deteriorated year by year to a point where he needed a walker to get around. He needed assistance showering and had an aide with him 10 hours a day to help him with his daily needs. The disease also affected his esophagus. He had difficulty swallowing his food so all his foods needed to be puréed. If anyone really knew my dad he really enjoyed eating and that was taken away from him too. Parkinson’s disease also affected my dads memory. One day he would recognize his aide and the next day he wouldn’t. He would forget if he had eaten or what he had just eaten. His nights were confused with days and he would be up some nights wondering where everyone was. This devastating disease not only cripples you physically but also affects your brain.
I will be running this race to raise money to find a cure for this disabling disease that not only affected my dad and my family, but affects many people. Please find it in your heart to make a donation and join me in finding a cure for this terrible disease.
Thank you so much for all your support and helping me to raise funds and awareness for Parkinsons Disease.
