Please join me at Moving Day® San Jose, to benefit the Parkinson's Foundation!
I was diagnosed with Parkinson's 8 years ago this week, on the cusp of my 42nd birthday. The diagnosis was devastating, to put it mildly. I've since learned to live with it, and I take medication 5-6 times/day to gain use of my right hand.
In 2 weeks I'll turn 50, and I would very much like to NOT be dealing with worsening symptoms when I'm 60 or 70 (or even 51). I would like for my smart, talented, funny, athletic, amazing teenage sons to not have to worry about whether they'll suffer too, at a certain age.
I WANT A CURE. As a longtime resident and contributor in Silicon Valley, I have a tendency to believe that technological innovation and the right team of people can solve anything. Please let that thing be Parkinsons.
This will be the 5th Moving Day San Jose event for "Team Garvey," a fantastic collage of friends and family who have supported me in my journey. I would love to have additional members on the walking team (3 easy miles), and if you're not free to walk on June 6 at Evergreen Valley College in San Jose, please consider donating. Support in whatever way you can...I sincerely appreciate it. Plus, it's a fun, family-friendly event, and you could probably use the exercise. :)
Welcome to our Moving Day® Team Page!
In the United States, 50,000-60,000 new cases of Parkinson’s disease (PD) are diagnosed each year, adding to the one million people who currently have PD.
Join our team for the local Parkinson’s Foundation Moving Day walk, the first nationwide grassroots campaign that spotlights the disease on a national level and gives the chance to raise awareness and funds in our own community. Your support will help us continue improving the quality of care for those living with Parkinson’s disease.
– To donate or visit a team members personal page please select from the ‘Team Roster’ list at the bottom of the page.
Thank you for supporting us and the vital work of the Parkinson’s Foundation.
