The Young Onsetters
Welcome to our Moving Day® Team Page!
Greetings everyone! It is hard to believe our 7th Moving Day® NC Triangle is almost upon us. Join us in making this day the best of them all! Our team represents the friends and families of RTP area people with Young Onset (and “Young Spirited”) Parkinson’s Disease.
In the United States, 50,000-60,000 new cases of Parkinson’s disease (PD) are diagnosed each year, adding to the one million people who currently have PD.
Young Onset Parkinson’s Disease (YOPD) is defined as PD onset prior to 50 years of age and it represents ~ 10% of all 1,000,000 cases of PD nationwide. There are special needs for those diagnosed with YOPD as they typically remain active, working, if possible, raising children, and may have yet to support their children through college.
We have been a team since the inception of the Moving Day® NC Triangle in 2013 (formed by the late Pierre Gervais and me from the Young Onset PD support group of the RTP area), and we have raised more than $75,000 for the Parkinson’s Foundation. We have surpassed our target every year and have been among the top 3 fundraisers every year.
Join our team for the local Parkinson’s Foundation Moving Day walk, the first nationwide grassroots campaign that spotlights the disease on a national level and gives the chance to raise awareness and funds in our own community. Your support will help us continue improving the quality of care for those living with Parkinson’s disease.
