Moving Day (R) Kansas City

Team Lucas

Welcome to our Moving Day® Team Page!

The Lucas Family is proudly participating in our 10th (I think?) Moving Day walk, benefiting the National Parkinson Foundation of the Heartland. First we walked in Honor and now we walk in memory of our dad, Rick Lucas.

Please join us on June 14, 2014 at the National World War I Museum at Liberty Memorial. The event opens at 8am and the walk begins at 9:30am (and if you knew my dad, you would know how perfect this location is! The history buff probably would have skipped the walk altogether and toured the museum until it closed for the night. He also would not have arrived right at 8am. Or 9:30am. He would have arrived right as the walk was ending and then hit the volunteer tents for free donuts, if I'm being totally honest). But please feel free to arrive whenever you want!  Look for the team proudly sporting the Crimson and the Blue, and please wear any Jayhawk paraphernalia that you own! ("The Rick" was a big KU supporter...except for Mark Randall, he hated that guy.)

We are attempting to assemble our biggest team in TEAM LUCAS history (which is about 10 people, so hopefully it won't be a tough record to beat!) so please spread the word and help us out! Father's Day weekend can be rough when you've lost your dad, so we are hoping this will be a fun-filled, family-friendly event for all ages and abilities and a great way to remember "Rick! Rick! Rick! Rick! Rick! Rick! Rick!"

A short walk route is available for all fitness levels (and is stroller- & wheelchair-friendly).

Why Get Involved

The National Parkinson Foundation (NPF) continues to bring help and hope to the estimated one million people in the United States, four to six million worldwide, who are living with Parkinson’s disease. NPF is the only organization with a singular focus on improving the quality of care in Parkinson’s disease. NPF programs reach more than one million people a year through its network of 39 chapters, 43 Centers of Excellence and 900 support groups. Since 1982, NPF has funded more than $180 million in care, research and support services.

Thank you for helping me reach my fundraising goal to support the vital work of the National Parkinson Foundation Heartland.

In the United States, 50,000-60,000 new cases of Parkinson's disease (PD) are diagnosed each year, adding to the one million people who currently have PD.

Join our team for the local National Parkinson Foundation (NPF) Moving Day® walk, the first nationwide grassroots campaign that spotlights the disease on a national level and gives the chance to raise awareness and funds in our own community. Your support will help NPF continue improving the quality of care for those living with Parkinson's disease.
