PD Gladiators

Welcome to the PD Gladiators Moving Day® Team Page. If you or your loved one are afflicted with Parkinson's disease, please join our team and fight back with the spirit of a PD Gladiator!

Join our team for the National Parkinson Foundation (NPF) Moving Day® walk in Atlanta, part of the first nationwide grassroots campaign that spotlights the disease on a national level and gives the chance to raise awareness and funds in our own community. Your support will help NPF continue improving the quality of care for those living with Parkinson's disease by helping them support programs like the PD Gladiators Metro Atlanta Fitness Network, the beneficiary of $15,000 in Moving Day grants awarded from funds raised at last year's Walk.

Our Network has only recently launched, but our independent instructors already offer over 15 low-cost group exercise classes adapted for people with PD and their care partners, and we have formed an alliance with the YMCA of Metro Atlanta under which select branches will offer PD Gladiators at the Y group exercise programs and reduced membership rates for PD Gladiators. Three of our instructors will give featured demonstrations at this year's Walk: Paul Delgado of the Livramento Delgado Boxing Foundation, the operator of the high intensity PD Gladiators Boxing Training for PD program, Kimberly Rodriguez, who offers a popular Zumba Gold for PD class, and Bob Wells of the Yellow River Center, which is bringing low-cost tai chi workshops adapted for PD all over the metro area. (To learn more about the PD Gladiators Metro Atlanta Fitness Network, please visit our website at www.pdgladiators.org)

In addition to subsidizing new programs like these, PD Gladiators will use NPF Moving Day grants to promote the Network--and the neuroscience that supports vigorous and varied exercise as a primary therapy for PD--to practicing neurologists. By the time of diagnosis, we have already lost more than half of our dopamine producing capacity. Every newly-diagnosed PD patient should leave the doctor's office knowing that they can take some control over their disease progression with exercise and that every day lost to denial or apathy is a missed opportunity.

Keep moving--and fight back! Show your PD Gladiator spirit and join our team.
