I was looking around one day for 5k races around Atlanta to do as part of a goal to get myself back into an exercise routine. I came across Moving Day Atlanta benefiting the National Parkinsons Foundation and lightbulb went off in my head. I remembered a few months back my cousin Stephen and his wife Megan were doing the walk in central park and I thought to myself, "how cool if I started a team and did Moving Day Atlanta." So I signed up, Team Buck Harrison, in memory of my grandfather, and recruited my sister and niece to join me in the walk and fundraising.
So thats where we are now, I am participating in the Moving Day Atlanta Walk, benefiting the National Parkinson Foundation on November 9th, 2013.
The event will take place at the Georgia Tech Campus and will be a fun-filled, family-friendly event for all ages and abilities. We will be able to enjoy a variety of movement activities yoga, dance, Pilates, Tai Chi, stretching and much more and celebrate the importance of movement in our lives.
Please consider being a part of my team or sponsoring me, and I encourage you to get your friends, family and coworkers involved.
Why Get Involved
This is a cause that is near and dear to my heart. My grandfather, Buck Harrison, suffered from Parkinson's disease for 19years by the time of his death. I was 17 at the time. I grew up seeing the effects it can have on a person and the vital need for more research into prevention and treatment of the disease.
The National Parkinson Foundation (NPF) continues to bring help and hope to the estimated one million people in the United States, four to six million worldwide, who are living with Parkinson’s disease. NPF is the only organization with a singular focus on improving the quality of care in Parkinson’s disease. NPF programs reach more than one million people a year through its network of 39 chapters, 43 Centers of Excellence and 900 support groups. Since 1982, NPF has funded more than $172 million in care, research and support services.
Thank you for helping me reach my fundraising goal to support the vital work of the National Parkinson Foundation.
