 Why I am Involved?

My Dad- Dr. Terry Capistrant and Mom- Jacque Capistrant are the original "Parkinson's Warriors" in my life. Dad is a well respected retired Neurologist that treated many Parkinson's patients during his professional career. 23 years ago, he was diagnosed with PD and my mother has been his primary care giver all along.

I have witnessed first hand the courage, tenacity and various techniques that can help persons with PD live well with this diagnosis. It is not the death sentance I originally thought. Being a witness to a PD patient and Caregiver's journey inspired me to get involved with the PD community because I learned that there are very real tactical things that can be done to combat the progreesive negative effects of the disease. The biggest constraint is the limit of money needed to convey these best practices to others. Subsequently, I became a Parkinsons Warrior and got involved in raising money through the Parkinson's Foundation, served on the board and persoanlly donated time and money to a variety of organizations combating PD because there is definitely hope. I assure you great people are making a significant positive impact.
