I was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease (PD) in February 2016. Since then I've been blessed with great medical care and unwavering support from family, friends and colleagues. I was even lucky enough to receive continued financial support from my law firm, Hinshaw & Culbertson while waiting for disability insurance benefits to start. The help of you and many others has made my PD journey much less daunting and less difficult.
I am taking Parkinson's medications as well as following a regular exercise and body movement regime focused on yoga, walking and hiking, occasional bike rides (hopefully more as the rainy season begins to taper off), a Parkinson's boxing program (really fun) and meditation. I am also usually able to rest when needed. Most of my symptoms are less severe now than a year ago as a result of focused care, medication, movement, rest and stress reduction.
I last worked on June 1, 2016, and officially retired at the end of 2016. I have been busy with self-care, handling personal affairs impacted by my condition and planning for the future. My goals this year include identifying a non-profit to contribute some of my time to, and to help others. I'm also strongly supporting the Warriors to return to the NBA Finals and crush whoever their opponent is, and of course the Giants as they start their 2017 campaign.
I want to thank all of you for standing by me, Jennifer, Julia and Jenna. Thank you for your support, both financial and personal -- it is critical to my well being. It demonstrates how interconnected we all are, and how one cannot really know the depth of his or her personal community support until in need of help. You have delivered.
Thanks also to Julia and Jenna for co-captaining Team Stedmuffins, and to Jennifer for always being there for me!
Love to all and with gratitude,
