I am a Parkinson's patient, participating in Moving Day® NC Triangle, benefiting the National Parkinson Foundation, on Sunday, October 1, 2017, at Koka Booth Amphitheatre.
I was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease in 2009 and that changed my world. I knew nothing about this incurable (thus far) progressive neurodegenerative disease. As my good friend D and I say, "we were too busy" before diagnosis. I know a lot more about it now, and am still learning. It has created an entirely new lifestyle for me. On the plus side, it has introduced me to some amazing people that otherwise I would not have met. My friend Susan and I founded a Parkinson's support group, Parkinson's Dialog, two years ago, which has been not only been an educational source but also where I have met many of those amazing people. Complementary therapies, i.e., massage, physical, occupational and speech have been a great aid for me. Special thanks to Amy Lu and Martha! PD has required many adjustments and taught me to really appreciate the blessings around me -- my family and friends. Exercise is critically important and I found Planet Fitness, a "no judgment" overall great gym. I have recently added Rock Steady Boxing for Parkinson's to my routine -- wow -- an incredible excercise program which "fights the fight" against Parkinsons. The Moving Day Walk supports and supplements the needs of Parkinson's patients -- with awareness, with information provided in many forms, and exercise --guided exercises, boxing demonstrations, dance, music therapy, hoopla hooping and walking! And very importantly, by raising funds that come back to our community!
Please join us for the Walk. The event will be a fun-filled, family-friendly event for all ages and abilities. We will be able to enjoy a variety of movement activities like yoga, dance, Pilates, Tai Chi, boxing, stretching and much more and celebrate the importance of movement in our lives.
Part of what I have learned, is to ask for help, and I am. Will you please consider being a part of my team or sponsoring me, and I encourage you to get your friends, family and coworkers involved.
Thank you for helping me reach my fundraising goal to support the vital work of the National Parkinson Foundation.
Do not hestitate to contact me to learn more about this incredibly important Walk!!!
