Moving Day® is a collaborative effort of the National Parkinson Foundation (NPF) and the National Parkinson Foundation Rochester Chapter. This event is a day of joining together and raising awareness of Parkinson’s disease. At our inaugural Moving Day walk last fall, over 400 participants, including people with Parkinson’s disease, family, friends, co-workers, healthcare providers, corporate leaders and corporate teams, joined together to exercise while raising funds in support of the Foundation’s mission.
In addition to a fundraising walk, this is a celebration of movement, with a special Movement Pavilion featuring various types of exercise including yoga, dance, and much more. The pavilion will be open when registration begins, through the end of the walk. For those who prefer not to walk, there will plenty of wonderful activities, entertainment and information to enjoy.
This year the walk will once again take place at the Monroe Community College Brighton Campus and our committee is hard at work to make this year's event even better!
It is 'A day to move, a day to move others, a day that moves YOU!'
The National Parkinson Foundation Greater Rochester Chapter has a three-fold mission to support and assist those with Parkinson's disease, their families, care givers and care partners in adapting more positively to the physical, emotional and social changes associated with Parkinson's disease. Support people with Parkinson's disease and their families through our support groups, mentoring and various exercise programs. Educate the community about Parkinson's disease through our quarterly newsletter, health fairs and our annual symposium. Find a cure for Parkinson's disease by supporting research through our fundraising efforts with Moving Day®, donations and in memorium donations.
The Chapter strives to provide an understanding environment in which people who are experiencing Parkinsonian symptoms or medication side effects can come together to discuss common problems, learn new coping strategies and provide support and encouragement to one another.
It is the group's hope that participants will gain a better understanding of our shared illness and will, as a result, be better able to manage its challenges.
