About Moving Day

Moving Day® is the National Parkinson Foundation Georgia Chapter’s annual fundraising Walk event. The event is a day of joining together and raising awareness of Parkinson’s disease. In addition to a fundraising walk, this is a celebration of movement, with a special Movement Pavilion featuring various types of exercise including yoga, dance, and much more. The pavilion will be open when registration begins, through the end of the walk. For those who prefer not to walk, there will plenty of wonderful activities, entertainment and information to enjoy.

We were so pleased that Moving Day raised $37,000 this past October to help people with Parkinson's! Over 400 participants, including people with Parkinson’s disease, family, friends, co-workers, healthcare providers, corporate leaders and corporate teams, joined together to exercise while raising funds in support of the Foundation’s mission. It was an incredible day and we were thrilled to see the swell of support from the community.

This year's event, on October 26th, will once again take place at State Mutual Stadium and the committee is hard at work to make this event even better! If you are interested in volunteering please contact James Trussell, Chief Volunteer Officer, at 706.413.3264 or at admin@gaparkinsons.org.

It is 'A day to move, a day to move others, a day that moves YOU!'

About Us

The Georgia Chapter was formed in 2004 as the Rome Parkinson's Support Group and has grown to serve the entire state through its network of volunteer led programs.  An estimated 55,000 people in Georgia are affected by Parkinson’s disease, with more than 13,000 living in Northwest Georgia. As the leading community resource for Parkinson disease in the area, the Chapter is committed to serving the Parkinson community with services, information, education and support. The Georgia Chapter provides peer-led support groups, educational programs and exercise activities throughout the state with seven support groups in Northwest Georgia. These support groups provide access to information and interaction that otherwise would not be available. Educational programs bring neurologists, movement disorders specialists and other Parkinson disease professionals to rural areas where access to these professionals may not be easily available.

The Georgia Chapter also hosts an internationally-recognized annual conference: "The Southeastern Parkinson Disease Conference." The 2011 conference was attended by more than 300 people representing 36 states, Canada and Germany. In addition, the chapter hosts an annual "Parkinson's Advocacy Day" at the Georgia State Capitol. The Chapter strives to inform the community through its website www.npfgeorgia.org.
