Moving Day® is the National Parkinson Foundation’s annual fundraising walk/run event. It is a fun and inspiring fundraising event that unites families, friends and communities both large and small in the fight against Parkinson’s disease. This celebration of movement will feature a family friendly walk course, a kids area, a caregivers relaxation tent and a special Movement Pavilion featuring yoga, dance, Tai Chi, Pilates, etc. all proven to help manage the symptoms of PD.
The inaugural Moving Day Chicago took place in October of 2012; raising over $230,000 it more than doubling its original fundraising goal of $100,000. Proceeds raised from the campaign help to improve the quality of care for people with Parkinson’s Disease through research, education and outreach. It was an incredible day welcoming over 1,200 people who joined in the fun and festivities with their friends and family. The support gained in this inaugural event from the Chicago community was overwhelming and the committee is already hard at work to make this year’s event, on October 20, even better!
Moving Day® raises awareness of Parkinson’s both nationally and in the Chicago community. It is 'A day to move, a day to move others, a day that moves YOU!'
Grove 2 is in beautiful Lincoln Park, just south of the Chicago Zoo. Use of public transportation (we will be near the Clark St/LaSalle stop on several buses) is encouraged, as parking will be limited the day of event. For route information click here.
We highly recommend carpooling, using public transportation, or riding your bicycle to the event. There is limited street parking available. Paid Parking is available at the Chicago History Museum lot, (Clark and LaSalle, with the entrance on Stockton Drive) or in the Lincoln Park Zoo Lot (on Cannon Drive, just south of Fullerton) on a first come, first serve basis. To determine the best route to travel via public transportation, please visit the CTA's trip planner.
There will be an assisted participant Drop Off Area on Stockton just North of LaSalle. Volunteers will be on hand to help people out of cars and over to the site.
Visiting from Out of Town? There are plenty of fabulous Chicago hotels around the area. For a complete list click here.
The Moving Day Event will take place rain or shine. If cancellation of the event is warranted due to dangerous weather conditions, announcements will be made on the event day at the event site. The event will not be canceled in advance. All decisions regarding cancellation will be made on site.
