Moving Day® is a collaborative effort of the National Parkinson Foundation (NPF) and the National Parkinson Foundation Western New York Chapter. This event is a day of joining together and raising awareness of Parkinson’s disease.
In addition to a fundraising walk, this is a celebration of movement, with a special Movement Pavilion featuring various types of exercise including yoga, dance, and much more. The pavilion will be open when registration begins through the end of the walk. For those who prefer not to walk, there will plenty of wonderful activities, entertainment and information to enjoy.
We were so pleased that our inaugural Moving Day raised $68,000 this past September to help people with Parkinson's! It was an incredible day and we were thrilled to see the swell of support from the community as we welcomed more than 400 of our closest friends to Coca-Cola Field, Home of the Buffalo Bisons. The committee is hard at work to make this year's event even better!
Based on the feedback from the survey, we have moved the event to a Saturday. The event will take place on September 7th, 2013 and will once again be held at Coca-Cola Field. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Linda Mosher, Moving Day Buffalo Chair, at 716-310-8316 or at wnymovingday@gmail.com.
It is 'A day to move, a day to move others, a day that moves YOU!'
The Parkinson’s Wellness Group (PWG) of Western New York was established in 1997 to provide support and education to people with Parkinson disease and their families. PWG has now become the National Parkinson Foundation Western New York Chapter and currently has almost a 1,000 members in our community. More than 100 people with Parkinson's disease and their families attend meetings regularly. Our annual Parkinson’s Education Symposium is attended by 200-300 people each spring. We offer a separate support groups for Young Onset Parkinson’s (established in 2004), as well as support group sessions with physical, occupational and speech therapists trained in Allied Team Trained for Parkinson’s disease (ATTP). We also offer caregiver meetings facilitated by an ATTP trained licensed social worker. We sponsor community activities which include the “PD Exercise Group for PD,” “Dance for PD” classes for patients and caregivers, Valentine’s Day Dinner Dance, educational lectures and a Family picnic. Our generous supporters allow us to offer our programs to all without regard to ability to pay.
